Women & Lung Cancer

  • Lung cancer deaths among women have increased 150% in the past two decades.
  • Two thirds of the public does not know that lung cancer is more fatal than breast cancer and has been since 1987. (Study funded by the American Legacy Foundation)
  • By 2006, women dying from lung cancer will double the number dying from breast cancer.
  • There is a possiblity that women's lungs may have a genetic predisposition to cancer when exposed. (Amerian Cancer Society)
  • Among people who have never smoked, women appear more likely than men to develop lung cancer. (JAMA article, 4/14/04)
